The Emperor

The emperor dreams
About new clothes
They feel so rich and fine
He wears respect
And love and fear
The feeling is divine

And all the people
Stare in awe
At the emperor in his pride
He shows no class
He’s not aware
That they all know he lied

The emperor dreams
About new clothes
His followers all say
That he shows
How wise he is
And how his thoughts hold sway

And all the people
Stare in awe
At the words they hear him speak
They can’t believe
He’d say those things
In a childish fit of pique

The emperor dreams
About new clothes
How others think him great
While other heads
Of power and state
Hear only words of hate

And all the people
Stare in awe
At all that they have lost
So now they dream
Of better days
And wonder what the cost
